Endurance Technologies and CHEP honored for environmental sustainability excellence at the sixth Auto Global Awards
CHEP, the supply chain solutions company, received a coveted Environmental Sustainability Award for its leadership in global supply chain sustainability at the sixth Automotive Global Awards at a gala event in London on the 6th November. Sharing the award was CHEP’s customer Endurance Technologies, a leading automotive component manufacturer based in India. Both companies were honored for their joint achievement reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and preventing deforestation.
The Automotive Global Awards recognize excellence across 22 categories in the automotive logistics, purchasing and supply chain sectors. Organized by media company Three6Zero, the annual global recognition awards programme brings together industry leaders from logistics suppliers, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and third-party logistics service providers (LSPs) to celebrate innovation and growth across the automotive industry.
DK Rai, Director, CHEP Automotive, India, said: “CHEP’s efforts alone have resulted in the saving of some 360 trees per year in materials and emissions. The vast size of automotive and logistics operations in India provides us with a good example of how small changes can make a big difference when implemented on a larger scale,”
CHEP works with over 3000 customers, including the top vehicle manufacturers and Tier1 brands globally since 1975. With its environmentally friendly, cost-saving, multi-user platform pooling service, CHEP reduces the total supply chain cost per part, while improving the efficiency and carbon footprint for its customers. CHEP also optimises transportation routes to minimize empty truck travel.
Atul Deodikar of Endurance Technologies, said, “We were able to realize significant gains in sustainability by partnering with CHEP to reduce our carbon footprint. CHEP’s reusable automotive packaging not only saves trees, but it also keeps packaging materials out of our landfills. CHEP’s business model of share, reuse, recycle and reduce waste serves our company very well.” This also help us to ensure optimum usage of logistics resources.
The judges commented: “The CHEP and Endurance Technologies entry falls very clearly into a total sustainability category. There is demonstrable and measured positive reduction in fossil use – for both packaging materials and fuel, and in emissions – through the net transportation reduction. There is also a positive impact on labour through less handling and the elimination of re-handling and further opportunity for genuine pooling. The described process is a worthy and successful use of durable in lieu of expendable packaging.”
The award marks the second year in a row that CHEP has been honored with an Automotive Global Supplier Award. In 2016, CHEP Automotive Europe and Tier 1 supplier Eberspächer won the Product Innovation Award at the awards programme. It recognized a new, efficient reusable packaging solution designed to optimise Eberspächer’s intercontinental supply chain.
