The North Face Debuts ‘Ashima: A Strong Mind’
n a short documentary released today, The North Face captures the transition from childhood to adulthood for Ashima Shiraishi, who at 15-years-old is regarded as one of the best climbers in the world. The film focuses on Ashima’s natural grace—the ease with which she juggles school, family and friends and competes against women many years older. With a supportive family at her back and a clear vision of her goals, Ashima has set her sights on competing in the 2020 Olympics.
“It’s so impressive and it’s so far above anyone else her age…it’s just world-class…for anyone,” says Emily Harrington, a fellow climber and teammate for The North Face. “She has so much talent, all she needs to do right now is have fun!”
Filmed by Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, the documentary short is just under 6 minutes and includes footage from Australia and Ashima’s hometown of New York City.
