The North Face® Kicks Off 2016

SS16 collection innovations, explorer events and new athletes kick off 2016

The North Face® today unveils its SS16 plans, releasing collections and advances that embody the brand’s ethos and heritage in outdoor exploration. With the brand moving into its 50th anniversary, The North Face® is excited to announce two significant launches in Europe, alongside a wave of developments in athlete expeditions and events.

The first is the launch of Mountain Athletics, a new outdoor goal-oriented training concept featuring high-performance clothing, tailored exercise programs, and a complimentary app. This concept was created with the outdoor explorers in mind, helping them to train for their next adventure. Whether it’s trail running through local forests, back-country skiing in the Alps, or climbing a first route of a rocky face, Mountain Athletics is there to provide the ultimate training support and added motivation through the key preparation period.

Harnessing proprietary technology such as FlashDry-XD™, the Mountain Athletics range stays true to The North Face® roots – innovative, durable, high-performance apparel with a stylised look. This is accompanied by the free Mountain Athletics® app, offering activity-specific workouts in the form of athlete-led tutorial videos. Alongside this, The North Face® reveals the next generation of the Ultra Series® – an advanced collection of trail running, and hiking footwear. For those hitting the trails, The Ultra Endurance is created to tackle the toughest off-road running, maintaining the highest level of performance no matter what mother nature lays down. The hiking offering comes from the Ultra Fastpack II GTX, a durable, protective, and lightweight hiking shoe that offers the speed of classic running footwear. Its comfortable fit will not only be your best friend on long trails, but comes with a stylised aesthetic.

2016 will also be the year where The North Face® give city-based explorers the chance to set their outdoor goal and get prepared for it with complimentary Mountain Athletics workouts in selected stores in London, Munich, Paris, and across Europe. These weekly sessions starting in February will be led by both adventure and fitness experts, embodying the spirit of Mountain Athletics®, designed to unlock participant’s true potential, helping them realise their outdoor adventure goals.

In order to inspire, The North Face® continues to work with an elite group of outdoor athletes, and this year welcomes big mountain snowboarders Estelle Balet (Switzerland) and Victor De Le Rue (France) to the fold, supporting them on their next adventures. In her first snow sport series with the brand, Estelle will feature in ‘My Backyard’ alongside Markus Eder and Sam Anthamatten, in which they explore their home mountains, uncovering the incredible lines they grew up exploring. 2016 also sees the release of exciting expeditions such as the much anticipated Bolivia expedition, ‘Los Gringos’ featuring freeride skier, Sam Smoothy as he follows in his father’s footsteps through some of the most remote places on earth. Also being released is an attempt to make the first ascent of Link Sar, a magnificent and daunting 7041m presence in the heart of the Karakoram Mountains undertaken by Andy Houseman and Jon Griffith.
